Edmonton Oilers avoid elimination, force Game 7 in Stanley Cup Final

Florida Panthers hold narrow 1-point lead heading into winner-take-all matchup

The Edmonton Oilers have forced a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final, becoming only the third team in history to overcome a 0-3 deficit in the championship series. The Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers 5-1 in Game 6 on Friday night in Edmonton, setting the stage for a winner-take-all matchup on Sunday night in Sunrise, Florida.

The Oilers' penalty kill unit was a major factor in their Game 6 victory, stopping all three of the Panthers' power plays. Edmonton is now 18-for-21 on the penalty kill in the Final, a major reason for their success in the series.

Connor McDavid led the Oilers' offense with a goal and an assist, while Evander Kane and Zach Hyman each added a goal and an assist. Mike Smith made 28 saves for the Oilers.

Aleksander Barkov scored the lone goal for the Panthers, who will now need to win Game 7 on the road to capture their first Stanley Cup championship.
